Homework

Reading at home is extremely important for your child's progress. We expect children to read at least 4 times a week. Please make time to hear them read and talk about their books, as this makes a huge difference to their confidence and understanding.

In Maths, children should practise their times tables by playing Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) using their school login. This is a fun way to build speed and confidence with multiplication and division. They can also supplement their learning with other online games- links are provided below.

RE

This term in RE, we are exploring Creation and Covenant, learning about how God creates, calls, and forms relationships with people.

Creation – Children are learning about the creation account in Genesis, reflecting on the beauty and order of the world.

As Genesis 1:1 reminds us: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”

Pupils are thinking about how all belief and life come from God and discussing what this means for people today.

Covenant – We are exploring how God calls people to follow Him and the promises He makes. Stories from the Old Testament, such as God’s covenant with Noah and Abraham, help children understand that God chooses people for a purpose.

As Genesis 9:13 says: “I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.”

English

This term in English, our learning is inspired by history, storytelling, and poetry.

Stone Age Boy – We are exploring this engaging story that takes us back in time to the Stone Age. Through it, children are learning about narrative writing, character description, and how to bring stories to life with rich vocabulary.

The Lost Words Poetry – Inspired by the beautiful poems that celebrate nature and forgotten words, children are developing their own descriptive poetry. They are learning how language can paint pictures and express feelings about the natural world.

Stonehenge Information Texts – Linking with our history topic, pupils are researching Stonehenge and creating their own information texts. This helps them practise organising facts, writing clearly for an audience, and using features of non-fiction such as headings, captions, and diagrams.

Together, these texts are helping children to build skills in storytelling, poetry, and factual writing while making meaningful links with their wider curriculum.

Maths

This term in Maths, we are developing our number skills and applying them to new challenges.

Place Value – Children are deepening their understanding of numbers, learning how to read, write and compare them with confidence.

Addition and Subtraction – We are practising different methods to solve problems, building accuracy and efficiency.

Multiplication and Division – Pupils are exploring the links between these operations. A strong knowledge of times tables is especially important, as they provide the foundation for so much of mathematics, from fractions to algebra in later years.

Area of Shapes – Linking to our work on multiplication, children are learning how to calculate the area of simple and compound shapes.

Together, these topics are helping children to strengthen their fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills – key building blocks for success in maths.
