Helping your child prepare for Year 1
ALL YEAR 1 children in both Class 1 and Class 2 will be following the Year 1 curriculum. These documents contain the Year 1 objectives for Reading, Writing and Maths. Each one is laid out with the working towards the expected standard, progressing onto the expected standard and working within greater depth. Please use this as a guideline when prompting and supporting your child in these areas.
Phonics is a huge part of Year 1 and we sit the yearly Phonics screening test. Revising digraphs and letter sounds will always support your child's decoding of new words and their reading and writing.
These 2 games support the blending of real and nonsense words. Nonsense words are part of the screening test in that they are unfamiliar and really test the children's ability to blend. Please note that identifying real and nonsense is only part of the game/fun but not part of the screening test.
