Parents FAQs

Q: What reading level should my child be on in Year 2?

A: All children are unique and develop at different rates but we aim for Year 2 children to be on purple/turquoise at the start of the Year and we aim to finish as a free reader.

Q: What if my child needs to redo their phonics for reading?

A: This is not a problem and all children need to reach the end of Phase 5 phonics for reading before they can begin the phase 6 spelling rules.

Q: Who will my child sit with?

A: In class 2 the tables are all mixed ability and the children are carefully placed with others that support their well being and encourage applying their skills. We like tables to be discussion rich and bring out the best in the children as individuals.

Q: What if my child needs some help?

A: We are fortunate enough to have Year 2 also within Class 2 and the mixed tables mean the children support one another. We are also fortunate enough to have more than 1 adult supporting our class.

Q: What if my child needs the toilet?

A: Then they can put their hand up and go to the toilet. If there are any issues with toileting please make the Class 2 team aware.

Q: “I’m not sure of my child is ready”

Response: In school we offer ‘Quality first teaching’. This means that we account for all the needs of all the children in the class to the best of our ability. No child will be expected to work outside their ability and all learning is differentiated accordingly.

NB - If you ever have any queries please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Standen or one of the staff team.
