Monday:

Reception – This week we are continuing with phase 5, like last week, if you feel your child is not ready please do concentrate on phase 3 or 4. Refer back to previous weeks for the learning. Introduce ‘ew’ (ch-ew), how many ‘ew’ words can you speed read in 20 seconds? Can you get faster?

New, flew, shrew, nephew, curfew, withdrew, overflew, corkscrew, unscrew, grew, few, drew. Ext – Write a sentence containing some of these words. New tricky word – old

Year 1 – Please read aloud the following sentences/questions to your adult or a sibling maybe.

Her best painting was the rainbow.

He had toast and a drink of milk for tea.

Dad was mending the crack in the brick wall.

Is fresh crab good with sweet custard?

Are clowns funny when they do tricks?

Can you jump from high flats onto soft sand?

 

Tuesday:

Reception – Recap yesterday’s digraph then introduce ‘ea’ (t-ea). Discuss that it makes the same sound as phase 3 ‘ee’ but is spelt differently. Sort and write following words into real or nonsense columns.

Dea, flea, plead, zeaff, lead, speak, stearp, steal, real, queap, leafed, pleat. Ext – We sometimes call nonsense words alien words, using one of the alien words, can you draw an alien to match it? New tricky word – I’m

Wednesday – Recap yesterday’s digraph then introduce ‘aw’ (dr-aw). Discuss that it makes the same sound as phase 3 ‘or’ but is spelt differently. Watch clip –

Now can you search around your house for objects or words containing the ‘aw’ digraph? Write them down. New tricky word – by.

Year 1 –

 

Thursday:

Reception – Recap all digraphs from this week then introduce ‘oe’ (f-oe).  Discuss that it makes the same sound as phase 3 ‘oa’ but is spelt differently. Also explain that the phase 3 ‘oa’ is usually found in the middle of a word and the phase 5 ‘oe’ towards or at the end of a word. Now call out following words to your child, can they sort and write them in the correct coloumn? (oe or oa).

Toe, goat, float, goes, cargoes, throat, dominoes, woe, soap, tomatoes.

New tricky word – time.

Friday: Spellings and handwriting – Click on star icon labelled other for handwriting, or feel free to use the pen pal sheets you have. For spellings please do also revise any previous ones that your child has been unsure of.
