English: Throughout the week please collect different types of food wrappers, plastic, cardboard, magazines and other collage type materials to create a poster on Friday.

Monday: All children to watch ‘The messy magpie’ story - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvOhu2mLKsw talk about the story with your child. Point out words that rhyme, discuss meanings of unfamiliar words/sentences.

Reception – Page 8 refers to ‘a gift’ being thrown out of a car. Ask the questions: Q1, Is it a gift being thrown from the car? Yes or no?  - how ever your child responds to question, please get them to write why they think that. Q2, What could the people in the car do with the ‘gift’? Ext – Can you list any words that rhyme?                                  Year 1 – Page 8 refers to ‘a gift’ being thrown out of a car. Ask the questions:

Q1, Is it a gift being thrown from the car? Yes or no?  - however your child responds to question, please get them to write why they think that. Refer to pages 10/11 of book  Q2, What ‘treasures’ have the humans left?  Q3, Who or what could be affected by the ‘treasures’ and how?  Ext – Can you find the meaning of: spy, gleam, swooped and manoeuvre.

 

Tuesday: All children listen to or recap this week’s story. Please focus on pages 12, 13, 14 & 15 - Discussion of what they observe within the illustrations. Do they think this is good or bad for our environment and planet?           Reception – Child to write what they think and why. Ext – List items that you see that can be recycled.                         Year 1 – What animals do you think might live in this kind of habitat? How could those animals be affected by all of the rubbish/recycling that is littered around? How could their habitats be affected? Ext – Have you visited anywhere that has been carelessly littered? If so where? How did it make you feel?

 

Wednesday: All children to listen to or recap story. Please focus on pages 16, 17, 18 & 19                                                Reception – Please explain the word habitat to your child -  habitat is the home of an animal or a plant. Almost every place on Earth—from the hottest desert to the coldest ice pack—is a habitat for some kinds of animals and plants. Most habitats include a community of animals and plants along with water, oxygen, soil or sand, and rocks.     Q1, What animals do you see?   Q2, What has happened to the otters habitat?  Q3, What is blocking the rabbits habitat? Ext – Are any of the animals in danger? Why?                                                                                             Year 1 – Please think about and give reasons why …. A, the plants were dying? B, the grass was no longer green? C, the flowers were wilting? Ext – What trees, plants or flowers might you see in that type of environment?

 

Thursday: All children to listen to or recap story. Please focus on the rest of the story. All children to answer following questions: Q1 – Morris saw a truck, where was it going?  Q2 – What materials can be taken to the recycling centre?   Q3 – What do humans do with materials/recycling?

 

Friday: Linked to art and DT - All children to create a collage/poster using materials collected throughout the week. The theme being the recycling centre.
