      Monday 1st June

  

       Morning, we will move to Oak National Academy for the maths and English as from this week.For English, I would like the Year 5's 

       to scroll down to the lessons on persuasive letters and follow these throughout the week. Year 6  can follow the lessons on 

       instructions. In maths, the Year 5's can follow the first 5 lessons on converting units. The Year 6's can follow the lessons on 

       coordinates and shapes. Also, I would like to recommend a useful resource for the Year 6 children in order to help prepare them for

       worksheets section and download the Circles: Parts worksheet . Again, it may be worthwhile for the children to watch the video as 

       a refresher.

 

       Geography

       I would like the children to go to BBC Bitesize Geography KS2. Scroll down to the geography skills section and click on Time zones.

       Watch the video, read the text and then hit the Play button to take the text.

       Go to lesson 2 of this week's Oak National Academy lessons.

    Complete today's Corbett Primary 5 a day questions from bronze to platinum according to ability. I would like the children to go to the

    videos and worksheets section and  download the Area of a Triangle worksheet. As with all the worksheets the children are being 

     asked to complete, they are parts of the curriculum that we have covered previously. However, if this is a topic that your child needs

    to reacquaint themselves with, I would advise watching the video.

   The new topic is healing which is obviously quite relevant to the situation we are in at the moment. I would like the children to write a        job description for a carer. What qualities would someone need to look after someone who is sick? What beliefs and values would they

    need?

       The children can start this week's Oak National Academy lessons. Year 5's lessons are on setting descriptions and Year 6 have

        lessons on newspaper articles.

      The children can complete today's Corbett's Primary 5 a Day questions going from bronze to platinum, according to ability. I would

       then like the children to go to the videos and worksheets section and download the perimeter questions and attempt as many as 

       they can.

     I would like the children to go to the Oti Mabuse Dance Class on Youtube and follow the Mary Poppins dance.

     I would like the children to complete today's Corbett's Primary 5 a Day from bronze to platinum according to ability. Then go to the 

     videos and worksheet section and download the worksheet on the area of rectangles. Not all of the children will be able to complete

     all of the questions but must attempt all the questions they can.

 

     Science

 

     The children can go to BBC Bitesize Science and scroll down to changing materials. They can click on What is dissolving? There is

      a video to watch and then 2 activities:filling in the gaps and a quiz.

     if you enter Transum Converting Units into the search engine and the children can work through the levels on the mass questions

     Go to BBC Bitesize geography. Click on KS2 Geography. Scroll down and click on the Mapping the world link. Watch the video, 

      read the text and play the game at the bottom.Then click on the Latitude and longitude link. Watch the video, read the text and play

      the game at the bottom.

     Complete the second lesson on the Oak National Academy website

 

     Maths

      Complete today's bronze to platinum questions on Corbett's Primary 5 a Day. Then go to the videos and worksheets section and

      scroll down to Units (Mass) and complete as much of the worksheet as you can. I have become aware that the Corbett's Units 

      worksheets are not separate but merged together. If you would like more work for your child enter Transum Converting Units into

      the search engine. The children can work through the levels on the length questions.

    As we com to the end of the Pentecost topic, I want the children to reflect on the way in which the apostles spread the Word of God

    and think of ways in which they can serve.I would like the children to make a seven-day plan  of a kind gesture each day.

 

 

     Monday 11th May

 

      Good morning, we are going to try a new website this week for the English that has been recommended to me. If you enter Oak 

      National Academy into your search engine you will come to a page where you click on Online Lessons. Then click on the Find 

      Lessons tab.Then click on Subject. Then enter your year group and you will come to a selection of subject options. Click on English

      and the Year 5's will find a week's set of lessons on character description and the Year 6's will find lessons on information leaflets.

      Click on to the first lesson.

    I would like the children to go  Corbett's Primary and complete today's bronze to platinum questions according to ability. Then go 

    to the videos and worksheets section and scroll down to units ( lengths ) section and complete as much of today's worksheet as 

    you can.

          children to go onto the videos and worksheets section and download the Think of a Number worksheet. Some of the later  

          questions will be very difficult for some children so your child should work according to their ability and complete as many as they

          can.

         Ourselves as Witnesses. The children can either research and write a profile of a local charity  or write a report of how they have 

         been witnesses at school.Describe fund raising we have done at school this year and why.

         Maths

        I would like the children to complete today's Corbett Primary 5 a Day from bronze to platinum according to ability. I would then 

        like  the children to go to the videos and worksheets section and complete the worksheet on Square Numbers. Remember a

        square number is the answer you get when you times a number by itself. For example, 4 is a square number because 2 x 2 = 4.

 

         English

          If the children enter BBC Bitesize pronouns they will see a link to What is Pronoun? There are 3 activities the children can

          complete. If the children would like an extension the children can read through two pages of the book they are reading and list

          all the pronouns they can find. Can they sort these pronouns into personal, possessive and relative pronouns?

        Maths

       I would like the children to complete today's Corbett's Primary 5 a Day from bronze to platinum according to ability. I would then like         the children to go to the videos and worksheets section and complete the worksheet on Prime Numbers. Remember prime numbers

       are numbers that can only be divided by one and themselves. For example 3: the only numbers that go into 3 are 1 and 3.

 

         English

        The children can complete today's Pobble 365 activities.

      

         Geography 

         The children can study a map and learn the capitals of South America. They can then enter Sporcle South American Capitals

          and complete the quiz

    

 

 

 

      Monday 4th May 

 

       Maths

       The children can complete today's Corbetts Primary 5 a Day activities from bronze to platinum according to ability. I would then like 

        the children to go to the videos and worksheets section and complete the Rounding worksheet.

 

        English

        I would like the children to go to the MC Grammar website and listen to the hyphen song or download the lyrics and then the 

        children can make a list of compound adjectives.

        Modern witnesses to the power of the Holy Spirit. Lydia and Paul made sacrifices because of their beliefs. Can you think of a 

        modern witness whose actions shapes lives? It can be a family member, parishioner or friend. Write a report on what they do.

 

  Friday 1st May

   Maths

  I would like the children to complete the Corbetts Primary 5 a Day questions from bronze to platinum according to their ability. I would 

  then like the children to go to the videos and worksheets section and complete the money worksheet. There are 21 questions that 

  increase in difficulty so not all children will be able to complete all the questions.

 

    English

   I would like the children to complete today's Pobble 365 activities.

 

    Science

 

     If the children enter Brain Cox School Experiments into the search engine they can enter the web page that comes up and scroll 

     down to  link 4: How do we get clean water from dirty sea water? The children can watch the videos and if possible they can try to 

     conduct an experiment  to separate a mixture of water, stones, sand and salt. They will need a sieve, coffee filter paper. The salt and 

     water can be separated by leaving a salt solution for a few days. The glass jars that come with Gu desserts are quite good for this 

     and after a few days the children should see the salt crystals remaining in the bottom of the jar after the water has evaporated.

 

 

     Thursday 30th April

 

      Maths

     Corbett's Primary 5 a Day, complete bronze to platinum according to ability. I would the like the children to go on to the videos and

     worksheets section and complete the questions on negative numbers.

 

      English

      I would like the children to complete today's Pobble 365 activities.

      I would like the children to read Acts 16:11-15 and 16:40. I would like the the children to write a diary entry from the point of view 

      Lydia and  use previous learning to describe how her decisions made her life more difficult but also describe why she was 

      prepared to take these risks.

     Complete the Corebett's Primary 5 a Day, bronze to platinum according to ability. The children can go to the videos and worksheets 

     section and complete the worksheet on place value.

     If the children enter MC Grammar, the first website that should come up will be MC Grammar Teacher Train. I would like the children 

     to watch the song for semi colons. I would then like the children to make a poster explaining what a semi colon is, using examples of

     sentences with semi colons.

     I would like the children to go on to the Oti Mabuse dance class and follow the  Frozen dance class.

     

 

   Tuesday 28th April

    Last week we varied the work that the children were doing but I have received a letter from some Year 6 children who do not like the

    new websites. So due to popular demand, we will use Pobble 365 and Corbett's Primary 5 a day this week. However, there will 

    still be grammar activities uploaded on some days. Also, if any children or parents enjoyed the Transum activities they are more 

    than  welcome to continue to use them for additional work. The children should understand that even if they fail to solve Transum

    Starter of the Day activities, they are still worthwhile as the attempt will have involved mathematical thinking.

    Maths

   Work through Corbett Primary 5 a Day bronze to platinum according to ability. I would then like the children to go to the videos and 

   worksheets section and complete the worksheet on sequences.

   English

   The children can complete today's Pobble 365 activities

   Geography

   The children will need to study a map of South America. Then if the children enter Sporcle South America, a quiz will come up 

    which will test if the children can name all the countries. There are twelve in all.

 

 

 

 

     

 

 

 

      Monday 27th April

       English

      I would like the children to create kennings. Kennings are compound words that were used by Vikings to describe a noun . Eg the 

      sea was known as a whale road, the moon as ship of night, night as sky's black cloak, an icicle was known as winter's spear. I would 

      like the children to create their own kennings for: cat, dog, teacher, school, car, train, sun, stars, snow, rain, television, the internet.

     Maths

     I would like the children to attempt the Transum Starter of the Day problem for April 4th. Then if you enter Transum Decimals you will

     see a page come up called Decimals Times. I would like the children to work through levels 1 to 5 according to the child's ability.

    The children can watch the above link which tells the story of St. Stephen.Recount the story from the point of view of a Christian

       Synonyms and antonyms. Synonyms are words that have the same meaning, antonyms have the opposite meaning. I would like

       the children to build up a vocabulary word bank of synonyms and antonyms for these words:hot, light, big, tired, clever,soft, funny,

       weak, kind, clean, nice.

      Maths

     Go to Transum starter of the day and complete the problems for April 14th. Then enter Transum and decimals and you will see a 

     page called Transum Plus. I would like the children to work through levels 1 to 3.

     Science

     If the children go to BBC Bitesize Science KS2 , scroll down to Materials and click on Changing Materials. They can watch the What

     is Dissolving video and complete the activity to fill in the gaps. The can then conduct an experiment by adding spoonfuls of sugar to

     a glass of water . They can record the number of spoonfuls that dissolve and then think about why the sugar stops dissolving after a 

     certain amount is added.

       

 

 

 

      Thursday 23rd April

 

        English

        Adjectives- I would like the children to complete an alphabetical list of adjectives. Then I would like them to write a description               of a character in which they describe their eyes, hair, hands and mouth. Remember - no more that 2 adjectives for each of these 

        nouns.

        Maths

       The children can attempt the problem from Transum Starter of the Day from April 4th. If you the enter Transum Fractions you will 

        see a page come up that has a series of self-marking exercises  on adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions. Your

        child can work through these according to their abilities.

        The Ascension of Jesus. I would like the children to read Acts 1: 6-14. Then I would like the children to produce a piece of art

         showing the Ascension. They can look at artwork on the internet for inspiration.I would like the children to annotate the art

       Wednesday 22nd April

 

   English

  The children can make an alphabetical list of abstract nouns which describe feelings and emotions. For example, A would be anger.      Maths

   The children can complete the Transum Starter of the Day question from April 9th.If you enter Transum Equivalent Fractions you 

   will  find 3 levels of activities. This will be adequate for some of the children. However, if you would like something more challenging

   for your child you can go the the videos and worksheets section of Corbett's Primary 5 a Day and there is a worksheet on equivalent

   fractions.

   Geography

   This term our topic is Maps and Mapping. If you enter Capitals of the World Sporcle you will come to a website and I would like the

   children to try the Capitals of Europe quiz. They may want to revise beforehand using an atlas. The questions are set against a 

   map of Europe so hopefully this will reinforce a spatial awareness of the countries of Europe. The first score may be quite low but

   the correct answers are shown afterwards and if the children have several attempts we should see progress.

   

 

 

 

    

 

   

    

 

      

 

 

       

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

       Tuesday 21st April        

       English

       The children can complete an alphabetical list of sentences using a proper noun, adjective and common noun in each sentence. For         example - Archie is an amiable ant.

       Maths

      Go to transum starter of the day, the children can complete the problem from April 8th.If you enter Transum Fractions, Decimals and         Percentages, you will see a page with three levels of activities that they can work through.

      P.E.

      I would like the children to time themselves and count how many sit ups they can do in one minute. Then halve their score and add

      one, so for example if they complete 30, this will  halve to 15, plus 1 = 16. This then becomes their target for 30 seconds. This

      process can be repeated for 15 seconds. The whole process can be repeated with squat thrusts. 

 

 

 

      Monday 20th April

 

       Good morning, I hope everybody is well and enjoyed Easter a much as possible. This week in English we will concentrate on 

       grammar activities so that the fundamentals remain fresh in everybody's minds.

       English

       Make an alphabetical list of proper nouns ( names, places) and a alphabetical list of common nouns. One of each for each letter  

       of  the alphabet.

       Maths

      If you go onto Transum Starter of the Day, the children can attempt the problem for April 23rd.If you then enter Transum 

      Percentages, you will find a percentages quiz. There are six levels , the children can start at level 1 and go on and challenge 

      themselves to see how many levels they can complete. They will receive a score for each level they complete.

     Jesus appears to his disciples after the resurrection. Read Luke 24:48-49 and Matthew 28:16-20. Write an eye witness account

     as one of the disciples. Think about how they will be feeling after everything they have been through. 

 

 

 

 

 

       

  Class 4's pages won't be updated with weekly home learning over the Easter holiday. If you have established some good home  schooling  routines and wish to continue activities at home great- there are plenty of generic activities on the home schooling tab.            You can the  go on to the videos and worksheets page and the children can complete the factors practice questions.

           This is quite a short worksheet so if you have time, you can enter Nrich Multiples and Factors into your search engine and a game

           will come up that you can play against your child. We play it regularly in class so your child should know the rules.

         100 and 1000 practice questions on the videos and worksheets page.

          The children can complete today's Pobble 365 questions and activities.

 

         Science

 

        The children have created sorting key to group liquorice allsorts. Their challenge is to create a similar key to group mammals, 

         reptiles, amphibians, fish and birds. They will have to research the key features of these classifications. Even if the sorting key

         proves too difficult , the attempt will reinforce the key characteristics of each group. 

 

 

 

            Thursday 26th March

 

             Maths

             Complete today's Corbetts Primary 5 a day questions and complete the multiplying by 10,100, 1000 worksheet on the videos 

             and worksheets section. 

             English

            Complete today's Pobble 365 questions and activities.

 

             P.E.

 

            The children time themselves for one minute and count how many star jumps they can complete. Halve their score, add one 

             and this becomes the children's target for 30 seconds. Halve their score and add one and this becomes their target for 15

         children can complete the decimal multiplication practice questions.

 

         English

 

         The children can complete today's Pobble 365 questions and activities. Please encourage your child to read as much as possible 

         at home.

         Maths - The children can continue to complete the Corbett's Primary 5 a day tasks according to their level. You can then visit the               video and worksheets page on the same website and the children can complete the decimal addition practice questions. If you are 

         looking for extra maths work for your child , Transum is a useful website which has some useful activities such as  a starter of the             day  and countdown which the children always enjoy. 

 

          English -  The children can go on to the next Pobble 365 activity.

 

           Science - We are  studying classification at the moment so the children can research the key characteristics of reptiles,

            amphibians, birds, fish and mammals 

Thursday 19th March

 

Maths - Corbett's Primary 5 a day 

Go to 19th March - There are levels: bronze, silver, gold and platinum. The children know their appropriate levels and they are               sensible about choosing the correct level for their ability. Then go to the video and workshops part of the site and scroll down              and  lick on the ordering decimals worksheet. The questions are progressively more difficult so the child attempts all the                        questions are able to complete.

 

English

Go onto Pobble 365 - each day has a different picture with writing activities and questions.
